Attack Compensation
Every so often the server is hit by a denial-of-service attack. When that happens you may lag out, get disconnected, or die to something you could not react to. None of that is your fault, so the server now detects these windows itself and makes sure nobody comes out of one worse off. This page explains exactly what you get, who gets it, and what to do if something looks wrong. Check the current state at any time with !compensation.
The server keeps a heartbeat, checks every minute that it can still reach the outside world, and watches how many players are online. Four things open an attack window automatically:
| Situation | What the server sees |
| Frozen server | The game stopped processing for minutes at a time (a flood usually stalls the database first). The window starts at the last moment things were normal. |
| Cut off | The machine can no longer reach the internet at all. The window starts at the last successful check and cannot close until connectivity is back. |
| Mass disconnect | The online count collapses within a few minutes and nobody manages to log in. Dying does not count as disconnecting, so a group wiping on a boss never triggers this. The window is backdated a few minutes before the drop. |
| Full outage | The server comes back up and finds its last heartbeat is minutes old with no clean shutdown recorded. Everyone who was online at the last heartbeat is counted as affected. |
Staff can also open, close or cancel a window by hand. A window closes on its own once the player count has recovered and stayed stable for five minutes.
While a window is open, a killing blow simply does not land. You are healed, cleared of burning, poison and paralysis, and returned to your temple with no experience, skill, magic level, blessing or item loss. You will see a message telling you the death was cancelled.
The only exception is inside a game event (Zombie, Capture the Flag, Rush and friends). Those events already have their own no-loss death rules and keep them.
Detection takes a minute or two, and the worst deaths usually happen in the lag that comes first. Every death on the server records exactly what was lost, so when a window opens, any death inside it that already went through is fully reversed:
- the experience you lost, including any level you dropped;
- the magic level progress and the skill progress you lost, in every skill;
- the blessings you were carrying.
If you are online when the window opens, this happens on the spot. If you had already logged out, it happens the moment you next log in. Either way you get a message naming the death that was restored.
| Compensation | Details |
| +25% Experience +25% Skills +25% Magic +25% Loot +25% Magic Find |
A global boost on all five rates, for everybody on the server, lasting twice as long as the attack. A 15-minute outage pays out 30 minutes, an hour pays out two hours. The minimum payout is 15 minutes and the maximum is 24 hours. It stacks with your personal boosts exactly like any other global boost, and shows up in !boosts and on your buff bar. |
| Stamina Feather | Everyone who was online at any point during the attack receives one stamina feather, which refills your stamina to full. It is placed straight into your backpack (or your depot inbox if the backpack is full) the moment the window closes if you are online, or on your next login if you are not. |
The reward is the same for every affected player. Nobody is drawn a better or worse item than anyone else.
| You want to know... | Do this |
| Is a window open right now? | !compensation shows the current window and any compensation boost still running. |
| Did I get my feather? | Check your backpack, then your inbox at any depot. If you were online during the attack and it is in neither, it arrives on your next login. |
| My death was not restored | Deaths are only restored if they fall inside a detected window. If you died in the lag before an attack and got nothing, contact staff on Discord with your character name and the time of death; the record of what you lost is kept for seven days. |
| I want to cash in the boost | The boost is already running for everyone. Go hunt; it is the best time to also pop your personal boosts. |
